Patient Care
- Fear Free Restraint
- TPRs
- Draw blood and collect stool or urine samples for appropriate tests
- Perform basic procedures: nail trims, ear cleaning, anal glands, suture and staple removals, skin scraping, and other procedures as directed by a veterinarian.
- Check in surgery patients
- Monitoring
- Administer emergency care as directed by veterinarian
- Prepare and administer vaccines
- Demonstrate proper medication administration
- Review products and diets with owners
- Fill prescriptions and explain instructions with owners
- Fill out exam notes, input vaccine history and reminders, complete charges accurately
- Transition appointments that turn into patients that need hospitalization treatments
- Fill prescriptions
- Obtain Radiographs
- Have knowledge of and follow contagious diseases and isolation protocols
- Prepare patients for surgery
- Calculate and draw up anesthetic medications
- Perform anesthesia induction, maintenance and monitoring
- Perform intubation and extubation
- Perform dental cleanings and x-rays with appropriate charting of the mouth
- Use knowledge of commonly used drugs, dosages, and their usage
- Know pain management protocols
- Greet patients and clients by name
- Bill for patient care
- Communicate with clients about test results, appointment scheduling and medications
- Educate clients about diseases, giving handouts
- Educating new puppies and kitten owners
- Complete estimates and discuss with clients
- Assist with surgical and in-patient check-ins and discharges
- Communicate with clients for doctors in-person, by phone, text message, or email
- Make sure doctors get appropriate lab results and the results are put into the patient record
- Verify technician notes, TPR, and doctor notes are in the computer for each patient

- Fill out surgery and hospitalization documents and bill for services
- Print emergency drug sheets before surgery (excel calculations sheet)
- Call clients at post-op or during surgery to discuss procedures
- Prepare discharge instructions
- Record controlled drug uses in drug logbooks
- Keep exam rooms, and lab stocked, orderly and cleaned
- Note when items need to be reordered
- Clean cages
- Help all teammates in getting things done
- Prepare samples to be taken out
- Maintain emergency kit
- Keep surgery, pre area, dental equipment area clean, orderly, and stocked
- Clean and sterilize surgical instruments
- Troubleshoot and maintain anesthesia machines, sterilization equipment, surgical equipment, IV fluid pumps ext. Maintenance logs to be completed.
- Maintain and order O2 tanks when needed.
